Putting your feelings and thoughts about your significant other into a love letter can be a unique and very romantic way to lead into your proposal – or to use as a finishing touch after your partner says YES! And – they get to keep it with them forever, making love notes are an amazing keepsake and proposal trend.

But we know… it’s easier said than done to sit down and write meaningful and enchanting words – they don’t always flow the way you want them to. Lucky for you, our Proposal Coordinators often help proposal hopefuls convey romance in their love notes so, let’s go over some tips and prompts if you are struggling with how to write a love note:

Before You Start

Set yourself up in a quiet place without any distractions where you can reflect and think about why you love your partner, and all the things you appreciate about them before you start writing. This will help set the mood for your love note and get a flow going for you!

Make it Personal

Don’t get caught up in writing too professionally and perfectly – feel free to use pet names, inside jokes, and common themes that you usually use with each other. Remember, this is for their eyes only – no one else is going to read it.

Start off your note with a sweet and very personal introduction. Think ‘To my darling,’ ‘my love’, and don’t be afraid to get mushy!

Use Past Experiences/ Memories

Write about a romantic memory. This is a great point to include at the start of your love letter. You two have a shared history, and probably many special memories together – so use that! Plus, you’ll score some extra points for your great memory ;). Think something like: “I still remember when I first saw you. You walked in the room with that long, red dress and I couldn’t take my eyes off you.” Or go with a funny memory – humour can be romantic too, especially in a love note.

Include Why You Love Them

Tell them all the reasons why you love them. This is a great transition from the romantic memory part of your love note.  Expand on your love for your partner and delve into why they are the perfect match for you – and touch on some of those little things that you absolutely adore about them.

Presentation is Key

Include a love note box! A stunning finishing touch to your love note could be a love note box – where your significant other can forever store your letter and keep it somewhere special.
