Peter + Chantelle’s Hunter Valley Winery Proposal

The Proposal

Peter and Chantelle’s Hunter Valley proposal was a beautifully romantic picnic setting, thoughtfully styled with a floral semicircle of elegant white roses, delicate rose petals and soft candlelight. Set against a natural jute rug, the intimate arrangement created the perfect space for their special moment, complete with champagne to celebrate once Chantelle said yes.

How They Met

Peter and Chantelle properly met around the middle of 2019. They had actually crossed paths a few times before through mutual friends at birthdays and different gatherings. So, you could say they were friends first, or at least friendly enough to keep ending up in the same places!

One day, Chantelle made a post about the Australian basketball team losing a quarter-final/semi-final game. The irony was that she had absolutely no idea at the time just how obsessed Peter was with basketball. He saw the post and, clearly sensing an opportunity, used it as his way in to start talking to Chantelle a little more.

From there, they started getting to know each other properly. Then, one night at a mutual friend’s birthday, Peter asked if he could take Chantelle’s hand as they were heading up the stairs. She initially refused because apparently, she liked to make things difficult for herself! A little later, when they were heading back down the stairs, he offered again. This time, Chantelle decided to take his hand… and I guess you could say the rest is history.

It’s funny looking back because there was no big, dramatic moment when they knew. It just slowly became them, and somehow, the guy who used a basketball loss as his opening line ended up becoming Chantelle’s fiancé.

How They Proposed

Peter organised a long weekend getaway to the Hunter Valley, which in itself wasn’t unusual because Peter and Chantelle had visited a few times before and he always loved planning those trips. So, naturally, Chantelle suspected absolutely nothing.

On the day, Peter had organised a few wine tastings and they arrived at one of their favourite wineries. When they got there, they were told they were still getting their table ready, and suggested they go for a walk while they waited.

So, thinking absolutely nothing of it, Chantelle agreed. As they walked, they started approaching what looked like a private set-up. It honestly looked like they were trespassing, so Chantelle turned to Peter and said, “We really shouldn’t be here, someone is about to propose!” Yes. She genuinely said that!

The funny thing was, Chantelle still hadn’t realised that she was the someone. As they got closer, she started to make out this beautiful set-up amongst the scenery: white flowers, candles and the words “Will you marry me?” And slowly, very slowly, it clicked that it had all been organised for her.

Chantelle was completely shocked. She couldn’t believe the amount of thought and effort Peter had put into making the moment so beautiful and so perfectly for them. She was also slightly annoyed at herself for not figuring it out sooner, but mostly she was just completely overwhelmed with emotion.

Peter then stood there and gave Chantelle the most beautiful speech before getting down on one knee and asking her to marry him. And honestly, she couldn’t have imagined a better moment. It was the easiest “yes” she’d ever said.

Looking back, Chantelle is actually so glad she had absolutely no idea it was coming. She got to experience the moment exactly as it happened, completely surprised, completely overwhelmed and completely in love. And, thankfully, despite her best efforts to ruin the surprise by announcing that someone was about to get engaged, Chantelle eventually figured out that someone was her.

Peter and the team at My Proposal Co. are so happy we could create the most beautiful setup and the perfect day in Hunter Valley. It was thoughtful, personal and filled with so much love, which made it even more special for Chantelle.
